Description

The Hainan University-Arizona State University International Tourism College (HAITC) is seeking one full-time, benefits-eligible, academic year, non-tenure track associate/full clinical professor in tourism and/or recreation management. This position is housed in the ASU School of Community Resources and Development and is permanently based in Haikou, Hainan, China.

School Information

Hainan University is a comprehensive provincial university in Haikou, Hainan China. It is one of the “211 Project” key universities. HAITC is an innovative joint college and the first domestic Sino-foreign cooperative tourism institution approve by China’s Ministry of Education. Currently offering three dual degree programs, the college began in Fall 2017 and now hosts over 1040 students. Courses are taught by both HNU and ASU faculty. Hainan is a sub-tropical and tropical island with beautiful beaches and tropical forests. It is often called the Hawaii of China.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to teach up to three courses per semester at the undergraduate and potentially graduate level, deliver excellent in-class instruction and participate in service activities for the college, profession and community. Supervising senior thesis projects and participation in master degree committees is possible. Courses are taught in English; Chinese language competency is not required. The appointment will begin with a one week orientation at ASU in in mid-August 2021.

Required Qualifications

· Earned doctorate degree in tourism management, hospitality, recreation, leisure studies, geography, business, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by time of appointment

· Undergraduate teaching experience

· Knowledge of the tourism and hospitality and/or recreation and leisure industries

· Ability to work with culturally-diverse populations

Desired Qualifications

· Experience mentoring junior faculty with respect to teaching

· Graduate level teaching experience

· Preference will also be given to applicants with: 1) experience teaching undergraduate tourism and/or recreation related classes; 2) experience working in the tourism and/or recreation industries; 3) professional engagement with students in and out of the classroom; and 4) expertise in one or more specialties such as sustainable communities, sustainable tourism, marketing and management, recreation facilities, leadership and professional development, and diversity and inclusion.
