Provide statewide leadership for Extension health and wellness programs with a specific emphasis on strategies to increase adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors. Work collaboratively with university faculty and Extension colleagues in diverse subject matter disciplines to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based educational programs focused on the prevention of chronic diseases. Share subject matter expertise and updated information with county agents through structured face-to-face and online training sessions that target specific competency/experience levels. Bring knowledge of programs and experiences from different parts of the state and nation to enhance local efforts and assist with program coordination among counties addressing the leading risk factors for chronic diseases (e.g., physical inactivity, poor diet, obesity, etc.). Work collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams to foster a systems approach to chronic disease prevention. Continually expand knowledge base and competencies through direct involvement in applied research, interaction with researchers and health practitioners, conducting literature reviews, attending technical conferences, and engaging in other professional development activities related to the above subject matter. Contribute to the body of knowledge in the aforementioned areas by presenting at state and national conferences and publishing in relevant peer-reviewed journals.

Serve as the primary conduit between research scientists, subject matter specialists, and county agents in providing evidence-based information and support for county-based educational programs related to chronic disease prevention. Work collaboratively with state and federal agencies, other universities, industry, and other entities to expand program reach in the areas of health and wellness. Utilize social media and other forms of technology to reach new audiences.

Work closely with individuals and groups to identify issues and concerns related to health and wellness at the community level. Design community-based educational programs which address the identified issues. Originate or acquire teaching curricula, publications, and other materials which agents will use in their county programs. Design, implement, and conduct applied and evaluation research in conjunction with county agents, research counterparts and clientele. Link solutions with identified problems and document program impacts related to the reduction in chronic diseases and associated health care costs.

Provide expertise to various clientele organizations, state and federal agencies and other groups at state, regional and national levels by serving on committees and advisory boards as appropriate.
