Hope College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Music (rank: Assistant Professor), to begin in August 2021. The successful candidate will teach courses in the jazz studies sequence, and will be expected to build the Department’s large jazz ensemble, organize jazz combos, and to do studio teaching in both classical and jazz styles.

The successful candidate is also expected to teach core music courses (music theory, aural skills, history, etc.) as well as courses in the College’s General Education curriculum.

Preference will be given to candidates who have established a record of excellence as performer and as a teacher at the college level. Applications from candidates whose principal performance area is brass are especially welcome.

We seek a colleague who has strong leadership and interpersonal skills, and who shows a commitment to working collaboratively and imaginatively with fellow colleagues who have different areas of specialization.  The successful candidate will be expected to engage vigorously in scholarly/creative work, and to build and maintain a strong regional/national professional profile.

The Department embraces the liberal arts ethos while providing academically excellent pre-professional music programs. The Department places a high value on diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds.

Qualifications:

DMA or PhD (Minimum = Master’s degree plus 18 hours of graduate credit in jazz, or equivalent professional experience.)
