Carlow University, a private, Catholic, liberal arts, comprehensive university in Pittsburgh, PA, invites nominations and applications for its next President. The Board of Trustees seeks an entrepreneurial leader who will be creative, innovative and collaborative in advancing the mission and vision of Carlow while strengthening the University's ability to serve its students.

Carlow University was founded in 1929 by the Sisters of Mercy, whose values and mission continue to resonate throughout campus. Carlow is an institution grounded in the liberal arts, and known for excellence in the health sciences while also offering strong professional programs. It is committed to engaging its nearly 2,000 students in a values-based process of life-long learning, scholarship, service, and research. Degrees are offered at the baccalaureate, master's and doctoral levels. Carlow has been recognized as a College of Distinction, Pennsylvania College of Distinction, and Catholic College of Distinction for 2020-21. It is regionally ranked by U.S. News and World Report and is also ranked for Social Mobility and Veterans. The University was recently named one of Money Magazine's "Best Value Colleges" and earned Washington Monthly's highest ranking in the region as a "Best Bang for your Buck."

Carlow is located three miles east of downtown Pittsburgh in bustling Oakland, considered the cultural, academic, and medical center of the city. Consistently ranked among the top places to live, work, and visit, Pittsburgh is a vibrant, mid-sized city with the feel of a small town. It is also home to top-notch health care facilities, small business accelerators, Fortune 500 corporate headquarters, and rated a top market for STEM professionals. Carlow has capitalized on its location and developed a strategic plan, The Carlow Commitment, that provides a roadmap for a sustainable future. The University has created four new graduate health science programs, developed a center for innovation and workforce development, restructured to more closely integrate liberal arts with professional programs, and invested in ongoing capital improvements. The new president will continue this institutional transformation, strengthening the institution's finances, promoting accountability to the principles of shared governance, embracing the Sisters of Mercy's regard for dignity and compassion, and committing to the University's anti-racist agenda, all with the goal of furthering Carlow's already excellent reputation and enhancing its position as a college of choice in the region.

The next president of Carlow University will bring a distinguished record of successful and progressive leadership that demonstrates strategic-thinking, innovation, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders to inspire change. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with the drive and fortitude to secure a thriving financial future for Carlow. Among the desired characteristics of the new president are a terminal degree, respect and affirmation of the University's Catholic identity and Mercy mission, the ability to bring external resources to benefit the University, and service leadership that puts students first. Additional information about Carlow University and the leadership agenda and qualifications for the next president are available in the search prospectus, available for download here.
