General Summary/Purpose

In order to advance knowledge and evidence on key questions about inequality, the Poverty and Inequality Research Lab (PIRL) is dedicated to facilitating interdisciplinary, mixed-methods research to inform policy related to poverty, housing, education and families. PIRL brings together Johns Hopkins University faculty and students, research partners, local organizations, policy makers, and community members to utilize rigorous research to inform debates on reducing poverty and inequality and increase social mobility for families. The purpose of the Research Program Manager position is assist the program director with operational program management. The Research Program Manager will also engage in project and task management. The program in turn will provide the Research Program Manager the opportunity to expand their network and engage in policy research related to poverty, housing, families, and education. The Research Program Manager will provide program management and support in accomplishing PIRL’s goals. This position reports to the director of the PIRL and will ensure programmatic compliance with internal and sponsored funding.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operational program management and day to day program implementation
  • Hiring, training, supervision of PIRL TLC research staff & students.
  • Manage data and analysis to ensure program compliance. Compile and develop data and prepare final reports for submission.
  • Will be responsible for the management of quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in strategic planning meetings in efforts to effectively implement and evaluate program goals.
  • Proactively communicate, collaborate, and build relationships with PIRL leadership and staff, scholars and other stakeholders- both internal and external. Attend meetings representing program.
  • Serve as a liaison between PIRL and local and federal grantor agencies
  • Train other team members on use of data to improve quality of services and generate qualitative reports for assessing short and long range organizational goals.
  • Analyze data to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans for programmatic strategic planning.
  • Grant writing support to director, reporting of deliverables to various agencies.
  • Participate in developing, monitoring management plan and update progress and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Responsible for Data Management, analysis and reporting: follow deliverable schedule to submit program reports.
  • Assist with work plan modifications and budget development and making sure grant funds are expended.
  • Provide guidance and timely updates to senior level management to ensure that operational and programmatic requirements are met.
  • Ensure that program is in compliance with all administrative and fiscal policies by conducting quarterly internal audits of the various program components.
  • Create/ adapt compliance documents that outline program policies and procedures at the programmatic level
  • Independently draft various documents, including grant reports, programmatic and outcome reports, letters and correspondence.
  • Gather and present programmatic, organizational, and operational information to senior leadership, both orally and in writing.
  • Manage data collection as well as manage the travel for team management during data collection
  • Manage budget and interface with SAP

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • Five (5) years related experience. Demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.

JHU Formula 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Preferred Qualifications

  • Related Master's preferred.

  • Excellent ability to manage time and projects with competing priorities.
  • High level of interpersonal skill, written and oral communication necessary to effectively interact with colleagues at all operational levels.
  • Experience with academic writing and data analysis.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently, as a team leader, and as a team member.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with capacity to deliver quality work product within the required deadline.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population, including minority and international students.
  • Proven aptitude with the use of Microsoft Office applications.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
