The College of Fine Arts and Design is a center of excellence for the arts and design, as well as a center of innovation for improving and promoting arts education. School of Music Overview

The UCO School of Music has a current faculty of over 35 full-time (of which 26 are tenured or tenure-track positions) and approximately 35 part-time faculty, combined with a full-time professional staff of 8. There are approximately 350 students enrolled in degree programs that include the BA, BM, BME, and MM, within the framework of six divisions: Jazz Studies, Musical Theatre, Piano, Strings (Orchestras), Vocal Arts (Choirs and Opera), and Winds/Percussion (Bands). Position Overview

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions

  • The position requires a full-time teaching load as specified by university policy.
  • Teaches Courses that may include: Applied Voice; Courses in the Vocal Performance curriculum, which include studies in Diction, Literature, Pedagogy, etc.
  • Actively recruits for the School of Music and the Vocal Arts and Musical Theatre programs, through school visits, participation in OkMEA activities, NATS, ACDA, and the like.
  • Performs additional duties that could include: Choral Conducting, directing operatic productions.


Qualifications

Experience Required

Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). **NOTE** If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • A terminal degree in Vocal Music Performance, or a Music Education-related area (ABD could be considered).
  • College teaching/directing experience.
  • Nationally-recognized Certification or similar achievement.
  • A record of success as a college/university teacher.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge in the field of Applied Vocal Teaching.
  • Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Ability and commitment to conduct research/scholarly/creative activities and provide service to the School of Music as needed/assigned.
  • Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
  • Willingness to teach in a variety of instructional formats (in-person, hybrid,and online) as necessary and appropriate.
