College Information: The College of Fine Arts and Design is a center of excellence and innovation for improving and promoting arts education. Position Overview:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.

Position Summary: The Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Central Oklahoma invites applications for a Full-time Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Design and Technical Theatre specializing in lighting, sound, and projection design and technology—here collectively referred to as Media Design.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions: The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses in media design and stage management. Additional duties include development and execution of media designs for the theatre, musical theatre, and opera season; mentorship of student designers and technicians in media design and stage management; student recruitment and retention; curriculum development; continued demonstration of research/scholarly/creative activities; participation in shared governance of the Theatre Arts Department; and service at the department, college, and university levels. This candidate will join our current Design and Technology faculty and support staff, and share in our mutual commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate students while demonstrating collegial collaboration within the Theatre Arts Department and the College of Fine Arts & Design.

Qualifications

Experience Required:

Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. An earned terminal degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). **NOTE** If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor.

Qualifications / Experience:

M.F.A. in Lighting/Media Design or Technical Theatre with a minimum of 60 graduate hours is required.

Minimum of three years of university-level teaching experience preferred.

Two or more years of professional experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Applicants must have prior knowledge and experience with best practices in media design for the theatre, including operation of industry-standard programs and equipment for lighting, sound, and video projection. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in instruction of these systems at the college level, along with practical application of the requisite skill sets in a professional production environment. Additional experience in instruction of stage management, and mentorship of student stage managers is strongly desired. Applicants must also have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office systems, possess strong communication and leadership skills, and manage multiple tasks both efficiently and effectively under deadlines.

Work Environment: The noise level in the classroom environment is typically minimal and controlled. Noise levels in the shop or production environment may range from minimal to loud. Personal protective equipment in the shop environment is provided, including eye, ear, and mouth protection.
