Position Summary:

The IT Manager provides and develops operational oversight of IT functions, programs, and services to support a broad range of department and employee technology needs with the Department of Chemistry. Composed of approximately 550 faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students, the Department has a long and continuing tradition of excellence in academics, research, and public engagement.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative, experienced, and customer-service focused IT professional who is able to deliver, operate, and manage complex and high-volume IT services.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field preferred. Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required Experience and Skills:
- Three or more years of professional experience managing unit-based computing systems in a large computing environment required
- Strong technical skills, including solid knowledge of LDAP, Samba, and Apache technologies
- The ability to support and develop a broad range of hardware and operating systems, focused on Linux (Ubuntu and Red Hat)
- Familiarity with network and server deployment, security, and maintenance
- Excellent customer service and communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Must be self-directed and capable of planning for department IT needs

Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Knowledge of MySQL and Windows Server techonologies
- Experience providing IT services in an academic environment and/or research environment
