Job Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences is looking to hire a full-time (one year limited term with the possibility of renewal based on need, funding, and performance) Laboratory Technician. This person will perform advanced biochemical, molecular, virological, immunological experimental techniques in support of current projects investigating host-pathogen interactions.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to: Assist in the design and execution of wet-bench biochemical, microbiological, molecular, virological and immunological experiments, maintain mouse colony; maintain detailed records and assist in the writing, editing and, graphic preparation of manuscripts for publication; instruct and supervise undergraduate student employees upon request; participate in laboratory and other mandatory meetings; perform basic laboratory duties such as ordering/tracking supplies and preparing solutions and media; act as liaison with other university offices, vendors, and other offices as necessary; May act as lab safety officer by monitoring and maintaining laboratory radiation, chemical and/or biological safety compliance.

Minimum Skills and Abilities
This job requires a person that can provide a high degree of accuracy, reliability, organization, effective communication, and experience with computers/software. This employee must provide the highest standard of laboratory practices, safety, and professional interactions. Knowledge of standard procedures in a modern laboratory (making solutions, media, etc).
Minimum Technology Skills
Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and graphing software.
Minimum License and Certifications
Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include one year of experience in modern molecular biology lab; demonstrated proficiency in molecular cloning, nucleic acid isolation and analysis, mammalian cell culture and bacterial genetics; experience in husbandry and experimentation with a small animal model; experience in virus protection, quantitation, and manipulation, preference for work with human or animal herpesviruses or orthomyxoviruses; experience with Bioinformatics software for sequence data analysis.
