Children’s Hospital of Richmond of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has committed itself to transforming the Endocrinology Pediatrics Division into a model academic unit devoted to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and clinical, translational, and basic research. The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at Children’s Hospital of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a full-time psychologist to provide clinical services, research, teaching/supervision, and program development to children and adolescents with diabetes and other endocrine disorders.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

We invite candidates to apply for the Pediatric Endocrinology Psychologist in the School of Medicine’s Pediatrics department. This position involves effort devoted to the provision of clinical services, teaching, and research, with the specific effort allocation dependent on candidate qualifications and funding support. The incumbent will be expected to be actively involved in grant submissions and contribute to the Division’s research portfolio. Clinical duties will include outpatient clinical services to patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes, obesity, and other endocrine disorders as part of an interdisciplinary team in the ambulatory care setting. Although patients with all endocrine disorders are seen at this center (e.g., diabetes, obesity, transgender), this position has a particular emphasis on diabetes, and will lead efforts to grow this interdisciplinary clinical and research program. The psychologist will collaborate with the other members of the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, CDEs, nurses, dieticians, and psychiatrists, both clinically and in a research capacity to advance the care of children with diabetes. The position includes teaching and supervision of psychology trainees as well as opportunities for teaching medical students and pediatric residents and fellows.

Position Responsibilities

Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the area of Pediatric Psychology within the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism. Faculty member will provide guidance and mentorship to Psychology Residents and Interns and Medical Students, Residents, and Fellows in the area of Pediatric Psychology / Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Faculty member will have experience in securing revenue through grants and contracts, will be expected to actively participate in grant submissions, and will serve as a research mentor to other members of the division and the department of Pediatrics.

Faculty member will serve on departmental or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, as well as professional service through journal reviews, conference presentations, etc.

Faculty member will serve as a Psychologist in the Division of Endocrinology

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling from an APA - accredited doctoral program
• At least one year of post-doctoral training in relevant area
• Licensed or license-eligible in Virginia
• Experience with clinical care of patients ages birth to 21
• Experience with type 1 and 2 diabetes in pediatrics
• Experience with pediatric weight management
• Experience with education of psychology residents, house-staff, medical students, and others
• Demonstrated track record of securing extramural funding in a related scientific area
• Training as a scientist-practitioner
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with advocacy at local, state, and national level
• Success in generating revenue (grants/contracts)
