DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION, XAVIER UNIVERSITY

VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR—ADVERTISING (2021-22)

The Department of Communication at Xavier University, a Jesuit-Catholic university in Cincinnati, OH, invites applications for a visiting assistant professor in advertising for the 2021-2022 academic year, beginning in the fall 2021 semester. Xavier has a strong commitment to diversity and seeks a broad spectrum of candidates who are equally committed to fostering and engaging with a diversity of ideas and experiences and to creating an inclusive environment in the classroom and university setting.

Our new colleague’s primary responsibilities will be teaching undergraduate courses in advanced creative strategies, fundamentals of advertising copy and design, digital content design, and other courses based upon candidate expertise and department need. The ideal candidate will also be able to support the integration of creative strategies into other department majors and classes. The ability to utilize Adobe Creative Cloud or other design software in their classes is desired. Our new colleague will teach 4 courses each semester and participate in modest departmental service.

An advanced degree in advertising, strategic communication, mass communication, visual communication, digital communication, or a related field, with an emphasis on creative or persuasive content creation is required. Candidates who are actively pursuing or have completed a Ph.D. are preferred.

The successful candidate will join Xavier faculty in the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts serving a diverse population of students. Xavier’s urban location in Cincinnati allows faculty to work with community partners to develop engaged learning and internship opportunities. Xavier is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities as well as the Big East. U.S. News and World Report has ranked the University 20 years in a row among the top 10 Midwest colleges and universities.

Xavier is committed to a diverse and inclusive environment; we welcome a broad spectrum of candidates, and particularly invite applications from women, ethnic and racial minorities, and other individuals who are under-represented in the profession. Xavier University is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to enhancing equity, inclusion and diversity. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without discrimination on the basis of race, skin color, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability.

For full consideration, applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, brief statement of teaching philosophy, including the candidate’s perspective on inclusive classrooms on Xavier University's website, by January 5, 2021.
