Training Opportunity: NSF Fellowship in Quantitative and

Computational Methods for STEM Education Research

The University of Chicago in partnership with Michigan State University is launching a three-year NSF Summer Institute in Advanced Research Methods for STEM education research. The institute focuses on developing leadership among early- and mid-career researchers of STEM education, especially those making research endeavors to promote STEM learning among students from underrepresented backgrounds. A diverse cohort of 22 NSF SIARM-for-STEM Fellows will be selected to

  • attend summer courses in 2021 and 2022 in research designs and causal inference, measurement, social network analysis, multilevel modeling, causal mediation analysis, and computational methods for analyzing qualitative and social media data;
  • engage in daily round-table discussions each summer;
  • receive continuous methodological support between summers;
  • complete and present a high-quality capstone project in summer 2023;
  • obtain a certificate upon completion of the program;
  • receive support from the advisory board, expand professional networks, and develop leadership visions and skills.

U.S. citizens or permanent residents with doctoral degrees are eligible. The selection process starts in December 2020 and continues until all 22 Fellows are selected.
