Lecturer in Construction Management

The School of Construction Management Technology at Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus has two full-time, 9-month (1.0 FTE) Lecturer faculty vacancies, beginning August 2021.

The School of Construction Management Technology has a progressively transformed curriculum of 6 and 9 credit-hour modules which are taught by teams of multiple faculty members, each responsible for delivering the instruction of materials in their areas of expertise. These course modules include both lecture and lab environments. The lecturer position will help teach these important courses to large cohorts of students by instructing and managing the instructional modules.

It is fundamental to all SCMT courses that the candidate shall be able to bring US construction industry experience to the classroom.  Lecturers are expected to work with and support multiple faculty members in multiple modules, simultaneously, in our undergraduate program.  Lecturers are expected to carry heavy teaching loads while serving only in an instructional and industry engagement capacity (no committee assignments, scholarly publications, or research expectations). Candidates with strong interest in teaching and learning innovation are highly encouraged to apply.

The Lecturer of Construction Management position offers renewal contracts. A successful candidate for this position shall interact with students at the undergraduate level, work collaboratively with faculty and industry, interface with learning innovators, and maintain technical competency. Applicants must have a minimum of a B.S. degree in Construction Management or in a discipline closely related to the construction industry. The candidate shall have a minimum of 5 years of construction industry experience with construction projects using US law and standards.  The successful applicant shall have the expertise and knowledge to teach across a broad range of construction management topics. Potential topics of need include, but are not limited to, commercial construction, surveying, construction layout, structures, statics, soils, safety, design, construction law, risk management, and construction equipment.

Purdue’s School of Construction Management Technology is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including scholarship, instruction, and engagement. Candidates shall address at least one of these areas, indicating their experiences, current interests or activities, and future goals, which will promote a work climate that values diversity and inclusion.

The School of Construction Management Technology celebrated 50 years of construction education excellence and Purdue University was recently ranked #9 among public institutions by the Wall Street Journal and #5 Most Innovative University in America by the US News and World Report.  The school of 18 faculty has a vibrant research and teaching culture with about 500 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students offering both an MS in Construction Management Technology and a PhD in Technology through the college.
