President
St. Joseph’s College at The University of Alberta
Closing Date: Will remain open until filled.
St. Joseph’s College at the University of Alberta invites
applications for the position of President. The appointment, for an
initial five-year term, begins July 1, 2021. St. Joseph's College
is a university community established in 1926 by the Roman Catholic
Archdiocese of Edmonton and affiliated with the University of
Alberta. With a history and connection to the Congregation of the
Priests of St. Basil (the Basilian Fathers), the College is
committed to engaging with and promoting the Church’s traditional
openness to exploring the unity of faith and reason. It also
operates two residences that house 350 University of Alberta
students of all faiths and backgrounds. Finally, the College
strives to help students live balanced and successful lives by
promoting the development of the spiritual, intellectual, social,
physical, and emotional dimensions of human thriving.
The academic wing of the College, led by the Vice-President
(Academic) and Dean, has nine full-time faculty engaged in teaching
and research. Annually, University of Alberta students occupy
approximately 2500 seats in various courses offered by the College
for credit toward a broad range of the University’s degree
programs. The President will be deeply engaged in all aspects of
advancement activities to support the academic priorities set by
the College, including raising support for scholarships, bursaries
and other initiatives to cultivate the mission.
The President is the administrative and academic head of the
College. The incumbent’s primary task shall be to direct all phases
of the College’s operations, in accordance with its Identity and
Mission, the objectives and overall policies of the College,
approved by the Board of Governors. Providing inspired leadership
to the Senior Administrative team, the President will be an
excellent steward of resources while operating in a fiscally
sustainable environment. In addition, the individual will be
particularly attentive to the enrichment of the Catholic character
of the College. The President will also have a commitment to
raising the profile and enhancing the reputation of the College,
locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.
The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate relevant
to the mission and identity of the College and be at the level of
Senior Associate or Full Professor. A strong record of collegial
academic and administrative leadership in an institution of a
similar complexity and nature to St Joseph’s College is very
strongly preferred. Consideration of candidates will begin in
January of 2021.
How to Apply? Applications may be sent in confidence by email to:
SJCpresidentialsearch@ualberta.ca. All qualified candidates are
encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents
will be given priority. If suitable Canadian citizens or permanent
residents cannot be found, other individuals will be considered.
St. Joseph’s College offers a comprehensive benefits package.
Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
