Established in 1975 as a primarily distance education institution with the joint collaboration of four school districts and the Ministry of Education, North Island College (“NIC”) serves students at Campbell River, Comox Valley, Port Alberni and Mixalakwila campuses, as well as through many in-community programs delivered in partnership with remote communities across 80,000 km2 from Ucluelet on Vancouver Island’s west coast to Bella Coola on the central mainland. NIC is honoured to acknowledge and serve the unceded territories of the 35 nations of the Nuu-chah-nulth, Kwakwaka’wakw and Coast Salish traditions, where its campuses are located.

The Opportunity: President & CEO

The President and CEO (President) is responsible to the Board of Governors of North Island College for the leadership and general management of the affairs of North Island College. The position advises the Board and recommends actions to address current and emerging issues in the field of education and ensures that the College's policies and programs result in the attainment of the long-term goals and objectives of the Board.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A Master’s Degree or other relevant post-graduate education; a PhD or EdD is preferred.
  • A record of accomplishment as a scholar and teacher, and/or a combination of senior administrative and teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
  • Intellectual depth and an understanding of the post-secondary landscape and diverse college community, particularly within the Canadian context serving rural and semi-rural regions; a passionate commitment to post-secondary education in general, and the motivation to become a citizen of the region NIC serves
  • An understanding of the issues and challenges that face public post-secondary institutions in the present and coming years, and the ability to address these issues and challenges in a progressive manner.
