Position Summary:

The Wisconsin Research and Education Network (WREN) is a statewide practice-based research network of primary care clinicians and academic researchers. Founded in 1987, WREN is one of the oldest and most respected practice-based research networks in the United States. WREN members conduct high-quality translational research projects in academic settings and "real-world" family practices across Wisconsin. The mission of the Wisconsin Research and Education Network (WREN) is to promote and conduct primary care research and education in partnership with primary care clinicians and the communities they serve.

This position serves as a Research Specialist for WREN activities. The Research Specialist is part of the infrastructure of WREN and the UW Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. WREN central offices are located in Madison. The incumbent will staff multiple projects across a variety of content areas.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required; Preference will be given to candidates with specialization in public health, health professions, medical or psychological sciences, or a related field.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

- 2 years or more post-degree professional level experience in public health, healthcare or clinical research, or quality improvement (QI) is preferred.
- Experience in medical research or primary care service required.
- Experience with using electronic health record systems is required, experience with REDCap is preferred.
- Experience in research confidentiality and privacy issues is preferred.
- Experience using clinical research methods and patient recruitment preferred.
- Experience managing and conducting research studies in a diverse setting is preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following experience:
- Coursework in social or medical science research methodologies or provision of health care
- Experience in communication (written and spoken) with medical providers, researchers, quality improvement teams, and patients
- Computer literacy for literature searches, data entry, data management, data tabulation, statistical analysis and data presentation in tabular and graphic formats
- Proficiency in MS Office software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant work experience. A minimum of 7 years' experience is required for appointment at the senior level.

Additional Information:

Must be able to travel to clinical sites in the Madison area and throughout the state of Wisconsin. Must provide own transportation or provide a valid driver's license and a clean driving record (if fleet car usage is requested).

We prefer to fill this position at full-time, however, there is flexibility to fill the position from 50% to 100% FTE.

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment.

Effective January 1, 2020, the U.S. Department of Labor Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be updated to require that positions earning less than $35,568 annually be considered non-exempt under FLSA provisions for overtime (see https://www.dol.gov/whd/overtime2019/). Based on these rules, if the person selected for this recruitment will earn less than the new salary threshold at January 1, 2020 ($35,568 annually), he/she will be an academic staff non-exempt employee, will be paid hourly and will receive overtime compensation for any hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
