The University is now inviting applications and nominations for the post of Vice President (Research and Innovation).  This appointment will be made on either a substantive basis or a concurrent basis for a fixed term.  Reporting to the Deputy President and Provost, the appointee will be a member of the senior management team responsible for the planning and development of research and innovation of the University.

Job Functions

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    plan and oversee all matters relating to the research, innovation and technology development activities of the University;

(b)    drive the enhancement of quality and impact of the University’s research in alignment with the University’s established research policies and positioning;

(c)    steer the University’s development in the strategic research areas to enhance or establish its leadership position in the region and internationally;

(d)    lead the planning and implementation of innovation as well as technology and other development initiatives to extend industry and social impact;

(e)    oversee the operation of some non-academic units of the University as designated; and

(f)    perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Deputy President and Provost or his delegate.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have outstanding academic qualifications at Chair Professor level with evidence of eminent scholarship;

(b)    have demonstrated capability and track records in leading and managing research and innovation activities, with solid experience acquired in a senior capacity within a world leading university setting;

(c)    be a visionary and inspiring leader with a strong drive for excellent performance;

(d)    have a proven track record in driving significant changes in a university setting, particularly in the areas of research and innovation;

(e)    have an international outlook and a good understanding of global trends and opportunities in higher education, particularly in the areas of research and innovation;

(f)    have excellent local and regional networks with the industry, business and professional sectors; and

(g)    have exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills to effectively collaborate with different stakeholders both internally and externally.

Preference will be given to those with a good knowledge of the regional research and innovation landscapes.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

Terms of appointment and remuneration package are negotiable and highly competitive.
