Schedule: Sites are not on campus. There are 3 different options: North Linden Elementary: 1718 E Cooke Rd. Monday-Friday 3:25-6:30pm Prairie Norton Elementary: 105 Norton Rd. Monday-Thursday 2:15-6:15 Stiles Elementary: 470 Stiles Ave. Monday- Thursday 2:15-6:15

Position Summary


The English as a Second Language (ESL) Afterschool Communities (ESLAsC) Tutor assists a team of other Tutors and the Site Specialist in developing and operating an afterschool program for immigrant and refugee elementary students. This off-campus position is tasked with building strong, positive relationships with students and their families, managing student behavior during programming, and preparing/delivering academic and enrichment activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

PROGRAM SUPPORT

Assists in developing, designing and leading program components that result in positive academic and social outcomes for participating children. Provides engaging, ongoing opportunities for children to experience success through academic, social and physical activities. Develops and maintains a safe, supportive learning environment to achieve positive results. Builds strong, positive relationships with students in ESLAsC programs. Provides time and table management while offering homework and tutoring assistance. Creates and maintains discussions for program and student improvement.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Reports to site on time and prepared, as directed. Models professional behavior with children, staff, and parents. Assists in developing positive and professional relationships with school staff, parents and community. Handles disruptive behavior with respect, following guidelines, processes and procedures, and reports any issues to Program Coordinator, Site Specialist, and/or Parent Specialist for follow-up.

CLASSROOM & COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Assists with meal distribution, clean-up, and walking home. Attends school, community, and student events. Assists in classrooms, field trips and school improvements. Contributes to quarterly newsletters, as required.

Usual Physical Requirements:

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee regularly stands and walks for extended periods of time, and occasionally sits. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Employee occasionally reaches with hands or arms, climbs or balances and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force of up to 20 pounds when moving files, boxes and other materials.

Working Conditions:

Typical office environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices. Must travel to multiple work sites.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: English word usage, spelling, sentence structure and punctuation; computer software, programs and applications; child development; refugee/immigrant experience; k-12 education systems.

Skill in: excellent verbal and written communication; organization; customer service; conflict resolution; application of job software including word processing and spreadsheets; performing mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, decimals, percentages and fractions; planning & scheduling.

Ability to: develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students, and general public; maintain confidential and sensitive information; use good judgement; excellent listening skills and participant in collaborative work; develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the College; effectively work with persons of varying cultures and diversity; problem solve effectively; exhibit a pleasant public manner; originate correspondence; work independently demonstrating initiative; maintain accurate and complete work records; apply analytical thinking; maintain good public relations; maintain a flexible schedule.

Minimum Qualifications:

An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Minimum qualifications for this position are: High school diploma or GED. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to worksite.

Preferred Qualifications: Coursework and/or experience in child development and second language acquisition.
