Position Description

The University of Oklahoma’s Department of International and Area Studies, a multidisciplinary academic department in the College of International Studies, invites applications for an Assistant Professor position focused on international security beginning August 2021. We are particularly interested in international security scholars working on the intersection of technology and security, national security policy, and/or US foreign policy.   

 

The person hired for this position will teach thematic undergraduate and MA-level courses in international security and their areas of expertise, as well as participate in OU’s recent research initiative in Aerospace, Defense, and Global Security, which is part of the university’s new strategic plan (https://ou.edu/leadon). We hope to welcome a new colleague with a demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusivity and mentoring members of underrepresented groups. Salary is competitive, with the appointment beginning on August 16, 2021. The teaching load will be two courses per semester (2-2).

 

The Department of International and Area Studies (IAS) has approximately 350 majors and minors, an MA in International Studies with 30 students, and an online Global Affairs MA with over 100 students. The Department has 23 full-time faculty with collective research strengths in the areas of development, security, national identity, and critical area studies. Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment and knowledge in international relations and/or international security is required.
