Job Description:

The newly established undergraduate program in Environmental Horticulture at York College of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning fall semester of 2021 (July 1, 2021 start date). The Environmental Horticulture major is designed with a focus on questions of sustainability and a global perspective on the impacts of food and ornamental plant production and utilization. This position is the first tenure-track hire for the new major and the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and directing the program. This position will have ongoing teaching assignments in fall and spring semesters each year and will teach courses across a broad range of horticultural subdisciplines.

Depending on the expertise and background of the successful candidate, these can include introductory horticultural science, fruit and vegetable plants, landscape plants and design, sustainable horticulture systems, and plant biotechnology. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to teach more than one ancillary required course such as soil science, plant tissue culture, plant pathology and applied entomology. Accordingly, in the present search, preference will be given to candidates who have broad training and the ability to teach a spectrum of introductory and advanced coursework in horticulture. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the potential for outstanding teaching and advising, ongoing college service and scholarship, particularly working with undergraduate students in applied research.

Given the global perspectives of the program, international experience in teaching and research is also of high importance.

Requirements:

A Ph.D. in a plant-science related discipline is required with preference given to those closely related to Horticulture. Graduates of broad-based programs such as Doctor of Plant Health are especially encouraged to apply.
