Position Summary:

Over the last five years, the UW Department of Emergency Medicine has undergone an impressive period of expansion and prosperity within all of its missions (education, research, clinical, and advocacy). The department employs over 50 faculty and fellows, in addition to 18 advanced practice providers, and 36 residents, to provide emergency clinical services at three local hospitals. Staff count is approximately 30, and the combined annual budget for the Department of Emergency Medicine is well over $20 million (clinical and academic). This position provides leadership in the areas of financial analysis, faculty compensation, gift and endowment account management, university funds oversight, contract management, accounts payable, and policy and procedure development and training. Due to the highly complex nature and variety of automated systems, this position provides direction, policy guidance, technical assistance, and financial expertise. The Financial Director will play an integral part in the financial and operational management, and their role as a member of the administrative leadership team will contribute significantly to the success of this complex clinical department.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required; preferred in Accounting, Business Administration, Health Care Administration or closely related field; Master's preferred. CPA is highly desirable.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-Five or more years of progressively responsible financial management experience is required. Knowledge and experience with the principles and practices of governmental accounting, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Experience in planning, developing and managing budgets.
-Experience in a health care setting with demonstrated participation in the financial management of a clinical specialty department or program is preferred.
-Experience in an academic medical setting is preferred.
-Effective oral and written communication skills, independent problem solving and analytical skills, attention to detail and organization, and an outgoing and energetic service-oriented approach required.
-Advanced working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office Suite.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to independently communicate and interact effectively with faculty, residents, advanced practice providers, staff, learner and leaders external to the department, but integral to the department's success. It is imperative that this individual demonstrate professionalism, creativity, innovation, and a sense of personal responsibility and maturity. This position will report directly to the Department Administrator and the Department Chair.
