Position Function
Under the direction of the Associate Vice Provost for University College and Student Success, and through collaborative relationships across campus, the Director of First Year Experience will coordinate and oversee a comprehensive first year experience for students that will facilitate student academic success, foster a greater sense of community, and increase student persistence and retention. Serve as a primary liaison from Academic Affairs to Summer Bridge programs, Orientation and Welcome Week, the Living Learning Communities, First Year Faculty Ambassadors, the Career Center, and Commuter Connections.
Minimum Education
Master’s degree in relevant field from an accredited institution.
Minimum Experience
Three years of experience with innovative student success and retention initiatives in a higher education setting.
Minimum Other
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous projects with attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to form collaborative relationships with other University offices.
Outstanding social media skills.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Knowledge of technology that supports student success including predictive analytics, data analysis, and student-facing softwares.
Authorization to work in the US
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Education
Doctorate or terminal degree in relevant field from an accredited institution.
Preferred Experience
Experience with implementation of a First Year Experience comprehensive program.
Experience working with professionals in a Career Center and in Living and Learning Communities.
Experience collaborating with Summer Orientation and Welcome Weeks programming.
Preferred Other
Solid knowledge of trends in higher education as they relate to student success, retention and support.

In consultation with and under the guidance of the Associate Vice Provost for University College and Student Success, develop, implement, provide oversight and guidance for the program, and assess a comprehensive first year experience of student academic success, persistence, and retention based on academic transformation, community-building, and growth that is aligned with the University’s strategic plan. Serve as the AVP’s primary support point of contact for all matters related to first year student experience and academic success.
