Position Summary

The Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship supports and enhances the mission of the University at Buffalo Athletics Department and is responsible for working to optimize philanthropic support for Athletics. The incumbent will create and execute individualized stewardship plans, including experiences and events with major donors to Athletics. This position communicates directly with donors and works to build a culture of gratitude and philanthropy that ensures that donors are recognized, appreciated, informed and engaged.

The successful candidate will be a proven advancement professional with a record of success identifying, developing, stewarding and expanding philanthropic and/or revenue based relationships in an athletics-based, higher education setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Annual Giving: Develop and manage all annual giving based initiatives. Cultivate and solicit prospect bases for annual campaign, Block B Letter Winners Association, Gicewicz Club and Game Day Benefits Programs.

•Event Coordination: Provide support for special events, receptions and reunions designed to create/raise awareness of UB Athletics. Assist in Game Operations and Parking for development donors in coordination with the President’s office and Game Day Benefits Programs.

•Stewardship: Fulfill all stewardship benefits and opportunities provided for by annual and major gifts fundraising initiatives. Communicate with donors by phone, mail, and email as appropriate relating to privately supported funds. Create opportunities for additional donor recognition and identify opportunities to connect donors and fund recipients.

•Additional Duties: Responsible for carrying out additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Deputy Director of Athletics, External Operations. Serve in a collaboration role with the Ticket Office, coaching staffs, Athletics Marketing, and other areas of the University.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Professional experience in fund raising or relevant intercollegiate athletics, experience required. Outstanding oral and written communication skills is essential for interaction with Division of Athletics administration, coaches, support staff, academic leaders, university faculty and staff, alumni, volunteers, prospects and donors. Familiarity with and success in the complex environment of a public university. Background in intercollegiate athletics and/or annual giving and stewardship.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.
