JOB PURPOSE:

To help in material preparation, participant running, and data collection and analysis of experiments. The experiments relate to earthquake preparedness and digital media consumption patterns among young adults. This is part of an ongoing interdisciplinary research supervised by Profs. Peter Drake, Erik Nilsen, Bryan Sebok, and Liz Safran.

PREREQUISITES FOR ELIGIBILITY:
  • Speak with Dr. Nilsen or Dr. Safran about your experience and interests

  • Statistical and Research Design coursework including PSY 200 and PSY 300 (or equivalent) preferred

  • Experience with SPSS and MS Excel or Google Sheets required, familiarity with Qualtrics preferred

  • Experience with designing and executing empirical research preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Aiding in material preparation, participant recruiting, and collection and analysis of data. Must be able to work well with people, respond to challenges with computer systems, and work effectively as a research collaborator. Attention to detail and ability to responsibly manage confidential data essential. Must complete responsible conduct of research training, including human subjects module. Specific tasks may include some or all of the following:

  • Developing, vetting, and testing survey questions (using Qualtrics)

  • Aiding in producing and revising Institutional Review Board applications for studies

  • Recruiting appropriate participants

  • Handling event scheduling and securing appropriate venues

  • Carefully following research script in data collection sessions with participants

  • Managing payments

  • Collecting and checking data in a timely and careful manner.

  • Importing data into SPSS and conduct appropriate analyses as directed by the PI’s

  • Helping develop summaries and findings and graphs and visualizations of data analyses.

  • Helping in drafting posters and written summaries of experimental results for internal reports and conference presentations

SCHEDULE:
  • Flexible schedule to be determined in consultation with Dr. Nilsen or Dr. Safran. Must be able to work in blocks of three hours when experiments are being conducted.



RATE OF PAY:
  • $14.75 per hour
