Job Description:

Dean College is seeking a data-savvy Director of Advancement Services. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Advancement and supervising one direct report, this position will collaborate with a team of eight development and alumni relations colleagues to support engagement and fundraising goals.

This position is responsible for management of the Raisers Edge donor database and the records relating to constituents who have a connection to the College. The Director supports the College's efforts by conducting thorough and sophisticated research and analysis, prospect identification and portfolio management; collaborating with front-line fundraisers in managing and analyzing their portfolios and making donor strategy recommendations; overseeing gift processing and all stewardship efforts. Files management include records and research concerning the following:  bequests, scholarships, alumni, parents, corporations, foundations and donor records.  

II.  Job Duties

Data Management and Analysis

  • Serve as primary supervisor of Raiser's Edge/NXT information system;
  • Create, manipulate, and manage reports in Raiser's Edge;
  • Oversee and manage all required donor database and financial reporting tools;
  • Understand, create and manipulate data sets; analyze and interpret data to assist in predictive modeling;
  • Update and maintain records pertaining to scholarship agreements and bequests;
  • Build and implement key data imports using the ImportOmatic tool;
  • Supervise one staff member who is charged with data entry related to gift, biographical, relationship and event information; providing tax receipts and gift acknowledgments for all gifts to the College; and managing student workers;
  • Assist with the training of IA employees on the Raiser's Edge/NXT system.

Prospect Management

  • In collaboration, manage and create portfolios of donors who can give philanthropically to Dean, routinely evaluating content, size, and value to align with fundraiser metrics and goals;
  • Assist in the development of strategies for engagement with donors through consultative portfolio reviews and provide recommendations;
  • Provide strategic analysis to ensure Dean's fundraising efforts are focused on working with the right donors at the right time;
  • Identify, rate, and rank a continual flow of highly qualified donors in support of the College's highest fundraising priorities;
  • Employ advanced research data collection and analysis skills (using public, proprietary, purchased or leased databases, published materials and other resources) to proactively identify, research and assess the philanthropic giving capacity of prospective donors;
  • Analyze the wealth and assets, giving interests, backgrounds and relationships to Dean of individuals, corporations and foundations;
  • Coordinate and respond to requests, prepare ad-hoc reports for staff, and provide instruction on prospect management areas of the database while maintaining data integrity and accuracy at all times;
  • On an ongoing basis, screen event attendance lists to identify prospects.

Other Advancement Functions

  • Supervise gift processing and acknowledgement processes;
  • Assure gift and data processes are compliant with appropriate IRS, state and federal regulations; provide back-up gift and other data entry support as needed;
  • Steward current scholarship and endowment donors;
  • Support Institutional Advancement and other College departments in staffing campus events, including but not limited to New Student Orientation, the President's Cup Golf Tournament, Homecoming, and Commencement;
  • Special projects and other necessary duties will be assigned as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required;
  • 5+ years related experience, preferably in an academic institution with supervisory experience required; 
  • Knowledge of Raiser's Edge preferred;
  • Ability to extract reports from raw data for reporting and/or analysis;
  • Attention to detail and strong customer service orientation;
  • Prospect research experience helpful;
  • Excellent communication skills, flexibility, ability to coach staff, strong self-motivation, high level of integrity and confidentiality;
  • Demonstrated problem solving and meta-data skills; strong analytical abilities;
  • Experience working with databases, RE and NXT preferred; familiarity with research tools, ResearchPoint preferred;
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, basic functions, formatting, and visualizations; competency in Microsoft Word and Outlook;
  • Knowledge of fundraising practices and IRS regulations for charitable giving and CASE reporting standards.
  • Willingness and ability to be part of a team which will advance institutional goals.
  • Outstanding time management skills, including the ability to organize, manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Available to work occasional nights or weekends.
