The School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Houston-Victoria is accepting applications for a Lecturer position in Political Science.

The University of Houston-Victoria is a Hispanic-serving institution, located in the Coastal Bend region of southeast Texas. The main campus is in Victoria, TX, approximately 2 hours from Houston, Austin, Corpus Christi and San Antonio. It also offers a satellite campus in the greater Houston area. The University of Houston-Victoria enrolls approximately 5,000 students. 

This position is located in Victoria, TX. The successful applicant is expected to play a large role in supporting undergraduate teaching, thus contributing to campus and student life in Victoria. The Political Science faculty serve a variety of needs for the institution. The undergraduate program serves students seeking the residential experience through face-to-face classes in Victoria and non-traditional students seeking a degree through on-line programs. Faculty also teach core Political Science courses at the lower division for all undergraduate students. Partnerships with local high schools have also expanded and dual credit students take lower division core Political Science courses.

Position summary:  Candidates will be required to teach a combination of courses in the Political Science undergraduate program. The candidate will mentor undergraduate students. Candidates are expected to maintain excellence in teaching; participate in course and program development; perform other duties as assigned by the dean and chair of the Division of Social & Behavioral Sciences; and perform all other related activities as required. This position will start in Fall 2021.

Required qualifications:  A Master’s degree or higher in Political Science or a closely related Political Science field by starting date; demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.

Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to generalists, especially in American Politics, capable of teaching a wide variety of courses at the lower and upper division, as well those who have interest in program development through the expansion of on-campus service, specifically extracurricular and experiential learning opportunities for students. Candidates who have taught face-to-face undergraduate courses and have demonstrated involvement with students on campus are preferred, but some experience teaching on-line would be helpful.

  3. list of three current recommendations from people who are in a position to know the applicant’s expertise, with at least two addressing teaching effectiveness.
  4. evidence of effective teaching (including student evaluations, if available);
