Job Description
The Department of Social Sciences at The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology starting Fall 2021. Focus will be teaching and research in Sociology. Course load will be 3 courses each semester. In addition, a 1 course load equivalency is to be devoted to research and service.Essential Functions
- Full-time sociologist in a merged Social Science major with Anthropology and Geography.
- Teaching and research in Sociology.
- Contribute to curriculum development and service.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Sociology or Cultural Studies by date of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching at the undergraduate college level, experience teaching in diverse (or multiple) platforms—face to face, online, and hybrid, as well as the ability to teach a wide range of Sociology classes.
- Experience teaching Introduction to Sociology and/or Contemporary Issues/Social Theory.
- Active research agenda.
- Contribute to curriculum development and service.

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
