The Department of Art and Design at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay invites applications for a tenure-track position, with primary teaching responsibilities in graphic design and interactive design. The Department seeks an accomplished designer who pursues professional scholarship and research practice and excels in teaching.

The successful candidate will be capable of teaching at all levels of the undergraduate program in Graphic Design and across diverse fields of design that include, but are not limited to, visual communication, typography, information design, web/interactive design and user experience design and have a demonstrated awareness of sustainable design practices.  The candidate will also actively participate in course development, advise and mentor undergraduate students, and engage in service at the department, college, university, and professional levels.

The Graphic Design Program is part of the Art and Design Department and includes three other areas:  Environmental Design, Studio Art, and Art History.  The Graphic Design Program emphasizes research methods, process, interdisciplinarity, conceptual design methods, visual communication esthetics, verbal articulation, and training in technology that prepares the student to enter the graphic design and digital media profession.  The Art and Design Program has NASAD accreditation.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Teach upper and lower level core undergraduate graphic design courses.
  • Maintain appropriate design research or body of creative work for tenure consideration in one or more areas of graphic design, interactive design, animation, and web-based media.
  • Advise students.
  • Perform scholarly activities consistent with rank.
  • Perform institutional and community service.

Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • MFA in Graphic Design or closely related field at time of application or PH.D. in a closely related field.  For those with a PH.D., ABD candidates will be considered; however, a Ph.D. in a closely related field from an accredited institution is a necessary condition for contract renewal. ABD candidates will be hired into a terminal appointment at the rank of Instructor with a rate determined at the time of hire. Upon degree conferral during the terminal period, the contracted appointment with the rank of Assistant Professor will be reinstated.
  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching graphic design, typography, layout and design using industry standard software and experience in one or more areas of user experience design, web design, motion graphics or animation. 
  • Strong interest in teaching visual communication design courses that might include design theory, digital foundations, design foundations, user experience, web design, and professional practice.
Conditions Of Appointment Position is an academic year, tenure-track appointment.  Applicants must be considered for tenure and promotion in six years, although tenure decisions may be at any time.  Promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor is simultaneous with tenure.  Excellence in teaching, sustained scholarly activity, and institutional service required for retention and promotion.  Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s).  A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s).  In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the university does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.
