General Summary/Purpose:

The Programmer Analyst will conduct day-to-day research and programmatic activities as they related to database development, database management, and data collection tool development. The Programmer Analyst will also perform basic data analysis to inform day-to-day implementation, reporting to PIs, Co-PIs and community key stakeholders as well as funding agencies.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct day to day research and programmatic activities as they relate to database development and database management for research projects and programs
  • Develop and build data collection tools (at times complex) within databases while working with Primary Investigators
  • Build REDCap databases-set up basic architecture and/or build complex REDCap databases
  • Performing QA/QC of data and associated database
  • Exporting data and compiling reports as needed
  • Maintain, repair, manage and update databases
  • For complex projects, build entire ACASI and manage/update ACASI data
  • Use best practices to store data on secure Hopkins network and manage files within warehouse manager to allow for data export
  • Manage data sets and conduct data cleaning using statistical packages (e.g. R, STATA, SAS)
  • Creation of Standard Operating Procedures with respect to database management and database development
  • Develop best practices for data collection and storage
  • Implement and Manage geographic information systems mapping
  • Develop and maintain reports for routine study monitoring and for the monitoring of key outcomes by multiple key stakeholders
  • Support the dissemination of scholarly products and dissemination
  • Additional duties as required

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in a related discipline such as public health, health sciences, statistics or informatics preferred.
  • Some management or supervisory experience preferred, not required. Familiarity with STATA, SAS, SPSS or R preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and REDCap.
  • Excellent communicator, excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding organizational skills, ability to work with quantitative data, basic understanding of epidemiology, familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Must work well in both group and independent settings.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once; meet deadlines, familiar with databases, detailed, flexible, able to manage relationships.
  • Ability to work with a diverse populations, prior public health or interview experience a plus.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
