Job Description



PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

It is the responsibility of the Faculty/Counselor to provide student support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. In order to promote and support student learning, the Counselor provides individual and/or group counseling services to all students enrolled in the college, which may include pre-enrollment counseling, educational, academic, career, and personal counseling. Position will be involved with a variety of issues and programs, including but not limited to working with probation and suspension students, developing an early alert program for students in academic difficulty, and working closely with Developmental Studies Faculty.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Teaches courses in Student Success at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs
  • Counsels students with personal, social, educational, and career concerns
  • Facilitates the transition of new students into the college environment
  • Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
  • Cooperates in developing an effective occupational information service for students
  • Provides information and services for students with special needs adhering to ADA and 504 regulations
  • Provides information and assessment services to support student learning and attainment of career goals
  • Maintains current knowledge of theory, practice, and ethics within the counseling profession through professional development activities
  • Works with students on probation and suspension, students experiencing difficulties that interfere with college, Developmental Studies faculty, and students who have special needs
  • Develops and delivers workshops on study skills
  • Develops an early alert system for students in academic difficulty
  • Responsible for professional development and institutional service as determined in consultation with the Director
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master's degree in Counseling or a related field
