Assistant Professor - Social Work
The University of Washington, School of Social Work invites applications for two Assistant Professor tenure track positions, which specialize in the study of race and racial inequities, effective September 1, 2021. Each is a full-time position, with a 9-month service period, September 16 through June 15 annually.
Our faculty are talented and innovative scholars, ringing depth and experience in clinical/direct practice and culturally responsive research. They are productive and creative colleagues who display knowledge in bringing fresh perspectives and depth to the science of social work, incorporate inter-professional and trans-disciplinary perspectives, and who are drawn to work in a faculty focused on many of the Grand Challenges that have been identified in the profession.

Tenure track faculty implement and maintain productive research trajectories with a commitment to exemplary scholarship, high quality publications, and preparation of fundable research proposals. They teach at the BASW, MSW and PhD levels. Faculty participate in shared governance of the School and serve on committees that implement the School’s vision across curricular, research and community activities. Among the core missions of the School of Social Work are social justice; educating a deeply diverse student body holding a range of worldviews; and, leveraging a faculty actuating a commitment to work in marginalized communities.
All candidates must have a PHD or foreign equivalent in Social Work or an appropriate social or health science discipline.
Applicants should be recent graduates or early career assistant professors within 3 – 5 years of receiving their doctorate.
Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to:
- Possession of an MSW
- Experience in direct or clinical social work practice
- Published research on the significance of race in American society, including the nature and persistence of racial inequality and inequity and their consequences
- A history of collaborative engagement with and deep commitment to Black communities
- Scholarship focused on the study of race and structural racism experienced in Black communities
- An active program of research in progress, or an outstanding records of achievement in developing or using innovative approaches in the broad areas of their discipline
- A strong commitment to excellent teaching
- Documented expertise in bringing depth and experience in clinical/direct practice and culturally responsive research
- Knowledge in bringing fresh perspectives and depth to the science of social work
- Ability to incorporate inter-professional and trans-disciplinary perspectives
