Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics and Clinical Assistant Professor of Nutrition Science

Job Summary

The Department of Nutrition Science at Purdue University seeks a Clinical Assistant Professor to act as the Director of our Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD). This is a non-tenure track, 12 month appointment. The individual selected will be involved in activities related to accreditation and management of the DPD. The activities broadly include: leading all facets of the DPD, including maintenance of accreditation; developing policies and procedures to ensure equitable and considerate treatment of prospective and enrolled students; student recruitment, advisement, evaluation and counseling; carrying a 3-3 teaching load comprised of professional undergraduate and/or graduate courses.

Qualifications

Candidates must be credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). Applicants must hold a minimum of a Master’s degree and at least 3 years of experience post-credentialing and have a commitment to excellence in preparing students for careers in nutrition and dietetics including the integration of research with practice. To continuously improve the DPD program, the candidate must have the skill to develop courses including incorporation of experiential learning and interprofessional education across the college. Work experience in professional settings outside of academia, such as clinical dietetics, is strongly preferred. Experience as a program director and/or familiarity with the accreditation process through the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) is also preferred along with academic experience in graduate dietetics programs and/or in programs using the future education model (FEM). In addition to teaching excellence, the successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the learning and engagement missions of the department and the University, including college-level initiatives related to Vital Longevity and Developmental Health and Wellness. The successful candidate will champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Scholarly work and outputs are required for promotion.

The Department of Nutrition Science

The Department of Nutrition Science has two ACEND-accredited dietetics programs: the Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD), accepting up to 20 students per class, and the DPD. An Individualized Supervised Practice Pathway (ISPP) program accepting up to 10 interns per year on a rolling basis is also offered. The DPD and CPD share all didactic coursework and underwent ACEND re-accreditation site visits in 2017. The dietetics program at Purdue University has been affiliated with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (previously known as the American Dietetic Association) since 1947 and the DPD program was the first in the state of Indiana. The pass rate within one year of the first attempt on the RDN exam for graduates of the DPD is 94% and 96% for graduates of the CPD. The department is recognized nationally for its vital research contributions to disease prevention and health promotion as well as its outstanding academic programs. Our undergraduate programs enroll 245 students, including majors in dietetics, nutrition science, and nutrition, fitness and health. Graduate programs enroll 45 students primarily at the PhD level.
