THE DEPARTMENT: The School of Engineering is part of the College of Science. The School offers Bachelor’s degree programs in Construction Management, Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering. We also offer Master’s degree programs in Engineering Management and Construction Management. The Construction Management program was established in the Fall of 2010. The degree name is Bachelor’s of Science in Construction Management. Through our graduates, we have established a strong representation in the Bay Area construction industry. This presence has provided our students the opportunity to secure internships, site visits and student projects to complement their classroom education. The program enrollment in Fall of 2020 is around 150 undergraduate and 60 graduate students.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
We are seeking an individual with teaching ability at graduate and undergraduate levels in selected aspects of construction management and construction engineering such as; Building Information Modeling (BIM), Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Lean Construction, surveying, scheduling, and estimating. Additionally, expertise or interest in other areas in construction engineering such as soil and foundations, structures, infrastructure design and construction, are desirable. The candidate must have a PhD in Civil Engineering/Construction Management or related area by August 2021. An undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering and ability to teach civil engineering courses are desirable. Professional Engineer (PE-Civil) licensing is also desirable.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research, engage undergraduate and graduate students in applied research, publish papers and attract funding in areas related to civil/construction engineering and construction management. In addition to teaching and research this faculty will be responsible for advising students, curriculum development, engaging in program accreditation, program outreach, interaction with industry and other activities required for advancing the mission of the School of Engineering and the Construction Management Program. Engineering and Construction related professional experience, record of teaching and research activity in construction engineering and management are highly desirable.
Ability to teach, advise and mentor students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds is required. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord and Online campuses. In addition to teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work, and are expected to assume campus-wide committee responsibilities.
RANK AND SALARY: Full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization.
