Ca’ Foscari is looking for a researcher in the area of Hebrew, capable of inspiring students to become game-changers in their own fields and to make a genuine difference in the world.
Research activity will focus on the Jewish Babylonian Aramaic incantation bowls in comparison with other Mesopotamian artifacts (e.g. the Syriac incantation bowls) as well as with the Greek and Coptic magical materials (e.g. amulets and magical handbooks) from Egypt. The researcher will situate this comparative work within the broader study of early Jewish-Christian relations (including Mesopotamian and Sub.Caucasian languages and cultures).
Teaching activity: at least 30 hours of curricular and integrative teaching in the first and second cycle degrees courses In particular the researcher’s teaching activity will consist in teaching the Biblical Hebrew. The candidate is also expected to teach on Jewish Literature, culture, and society with a particular emphasis on ancient and late antique Judaism.
The position will be hosted in the Department of Asian and North African Studies. The Department has recently received a “Department of Excellence” Award by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research. The Excellence Award has allowed the department to receive additional state funding to develop innovative projects for the creation of the Marco Polo International Research Centre (MaP) Centre for Global Europe-Asia Connections.The aim is to foster scientific cooperation at international level on innovative topics such as new religious identities, migrations, climate change and the history of relations between Europe, Asia and the Arab and Islamic world in a Transcultural perspective.
The QS World University Ranking by subject has placed Ca’ Foscari of Venice among the top 100 universities in the world for the study and teaching of Modern Languages.
Thanks to the wide array of activities and subjects offered by the Department, students can learn and explore Asian languages and their cultural context.
The skills and scientific interests of the DSAAM faculty members cover a wide geographic area from Africa to Japan. The specific fields of interest, often cross-disciplinary, can be divided into four main areas: linguistics, philology and literature; religions and philosophy; archaeology and cultural heritage conservation, figurative arts and performances; history, institutions, economics, society, politics and international relations.
