Job Summary

The Department of Information Science in the College of Media, Communication and Information (CMCI) at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) seeks outstanding candidates for a regular faculty appointment at any rank. Successful candidates will help craft the future of Information Science, as a Department and as a field, and will be central to the College’s anticipated cluster of hires in the area of race, media, and technology. With a faculty possessing strengths in both computing and the social sciences, the Department takes a progressive approach to Information Science, focusing on human–data interaction in all its diverse forms and contexts.

Who We Are

CU Boulder is a research university with about 25,000 undergraduates and 6,000 graduate students. The city of Boulder is a high-tech hub, with the highest concentration of tech startups in the US at 2.5 times the density of Silicon Valley, according to the Kauffman Foundation. The Department of Information Science has a faculty with a diversity of backgrounds and interests that constitutes a shared dedication to progressive visions of Information Science. Our current faculty have training in multiple subject areas that include Art, Business, Cognitive Science, Communication, Computer Science, Computer-Supported Cooperative Work, Data Science, Education, Human–Computer Interaction, Humanities, Informatics, Law, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Media Studies, Philosophy, Psychology, and Science and Technology Studies.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

We are seeking candidates at any rank with preference for senior scholars at advanced assistant, associate or full rank working at the intersection of race and technology and embodying any of the many epistemologies, methods, and theoretical groundings that inform this rich, interdisciplinary, and socially impactful research space. We expect the successful candidate to take a strong role in the organizational and intellectual life of the growing department. The candidate should be prepared to teach and mentor students at all levels and to offer courses that center on race and technology and seek broadly to decolonize/challenge traditional information science curricula and pedagogies, and that build interdisciplinary connections across the college and support our race and technology cluster.

What We Can Offer
Salary range is $90,000-$140,000. We offer a supportive and collegial working environment across faculty, students, and staff; and an outstanding quality of life in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

They must have a commitment to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. They are expected to have deep familiarity with the academic workplace, and a willingness to take an active part in the life of the department and college and to contribute to the advancement of the college's initiatives in inclusive excellence.
