About the College/Unit/Department

The Department of Theatre and Film Studies is a unit of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. It offers B.A. degrees in Film Studies and in Theatre, plus a Film Studies Minor, and additional MFA degrees in Acting, Design & Technology, and Dramatic Media (including Computer Animation and Motion Capture), as well as a Ph.D. in Theatre and Performance Studies. The department encompasses the applied and scholarly study of a wide range of media, including stage, film, and 3D computer animation.

This program is a collaboration between the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and is a first of its kind at the University of Georgia. UGA’s Grady College also invites applications for a professor-of-practice position at the clinical assistant professor rank. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply to both positions. Applicants should include a curriculum vitae and cover letter describing their academic qualifications and professional experience, showing how they will add value to the program. Position Summary

The Department of Theatre and Film Studies in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2021. This individual will be primarily responsible for teaching in the new Master of Fine Arts program in Film, Television, and Digital Media that launched in 2020 in partnership with Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

The Department seeks an individual to teach a range of courses on producing, writing, directing, and post-production for the screen. This position will include mentoring and supervision of MFA Thesis Project productions and teaching in at least two of the following areas: directing, screenwriting, post-production, producing feature films, and/or television productions. Promotion and Tenure will depend upon an active creative research agenda, including on-going professional credits and accomplishments in the candidate’s area of specialization. Service on department committees is expected. The selected candidate will be appointed at the Assistant Professor rank.

This position will primarily involve teaching at the Trilith Studios (formerly Pinewood) satellite campus in Fayetteville, Georgia (20 miles south of the Atlanta airport). Our MFA program in Film, Television, and Digital Media operates in partnership with the Georgia Film Academy and the Trilith Studio facilities in Fayetteville, GA.

Additional Requirements

Master of Fine Arts degree or PhD in Film Studies, Media Studies, or a related discipline.
