Associate Dean of Student Support Services

Dartmouth College invites applications and nominations for the Associate Dean of Student Support Services. Reporting to the Dean of the College, the Associate Dean oversees all aspects of Student Affairs academic support programs and services, including the undergraduate deans, accessibility services, academic skills programs, case management, and our FYSEP/King Scholars programs for first generation/low income students and students committed to addressing poverty in their home countries. The Associate Dean serves as a member of the Dean of the College divisional management team and fosters close collaboration with faculty, students and staff to address undergraduate academic and personal support needs, to promote student success, to address Dean of the College priorities, and to advance Dartmouth's mission: to educate the most promising students for a lifetime of learning and responsible leadership.

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D in a relevant discipline, and a minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in undergraduate support services in a highly selective and highly diverse campus environment.

Required qualifications include:

• Proven record of programmatic and supervisory experience in student services, including undergraduate academic and personal advising, case management, accessibility and learning support services, and support for students from under-served and under-resourced schools and communities. 

• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and professional standards in student support and retention.

• Solid foundation in student developmental theory and its application to professional practice in higher education and student affairs.

• Demonstrated cultural competence, commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse campus population.

• Demonstrated ability to utilize academic performance and related data to inform program and service enhancements. 

• Proven capacity to foster strong and effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, families and campus partners. 

• Proven record of successful experience responding to individual and campus community issues and crises. 

• Demonstrated competency in organizing and managing complex projects and monitoring progress toward articulated goals.

• Strong supervisory, organizational and strategic planning skills

• Exceptional oral and written communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
