Assistant Professor, Agronomy

The Department of Agriculture at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time tenure track position as Assistant Professor, Agronomy. The anticipated start date is August 9, 2021.

Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. This location provides opportunities for a wide-range of outdoor recreation activities. Additionally, Morehead State University is relatively close to a number of larger cities including Lexington, KY, Louisville, KY, and Cincinnati, OH. RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibility for the Assistant Professor, Agronomy is instruction in the assigned discipline or related field. Classes are taught in a typical classroom, laboratory, the University Farm (Derrickson Agricultural Center), or an internet-based environment. Teaching a course load of 12 hours per semester in undergraduate agriculture courses is expected and include: Soils, Soil Conservation, Weed Science, Turf Management, Field Crops, Pest Management, Forage Crops and other classes based upon need. The Assistant Professor of Agronomy is also responsible for developing new classes for the Department of Agricultural Sciences so the department will stay current as changes in agriculture occur. Other duties include: Advising students in the Department of Agricultural Sciences; Establishing relationships and participating in activities with the Regional Agronomy Industry; Serving as Student Club Advisor; Provide visibility of professional growth and development, including producing scholarly work in research, publications, and grant writing; Serving on committees as assigned by the Department, College and University; and Supporting and participating in student recruitment and public service activities. Travel to Regional Campuses or Off-Site Locations may be required.

REQUIREMENTS: The Assistant Professor should possess the terminal degree in the individual’s discipline, and if the rank is granted upon appointment, there must be evidence of scholarly, artistic, or professional achievements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Significant teaching experience in higher education and evidence of scholarly, artistic, or professional achievements beyond the minimum qualifications for this rank.
