Affiliated (Part-Time) Faculty Power and Privilege
Join our community and experience Emerson College!

The Institute for Liberal Arts & Interdisciplinary Studies at Emerson College is looking to fill one course opening for the Spring 2021 semester, January 19, 2021-May 3, 2021. The available course is: Power and Privilege (IN 154)
Power and Privilege is a first-year interdisciplinary seminar that examines what forms privilege takes, and what its relation to power and oppression is. The course asks: how can we identify the ways that we may benefit from privilege, what responsibility do people in positions of privilege bear with regard to the benefits they enjoy, and why might people in positions of privilege want to work against it, and what can they do? This course provides students with the tools and resources to identify and address questions of privilege and power as they arise in relation to social categories such as race, class, gender, sexuality, and physical ability.

For the Spring 2021 term, Power and Privilege is scheduled to meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Noon-1:45 pm. The course will follow a Flex Learning format where it will meet once a week in-person/ on campus on Thursdays at the designated time and once a week remotely/online on Tuesdays at the designated time. Office hours will also be synchronous remote.

Flex Learning is designed to minimize health and safety risks to the Emerson community so the in-person component will have a large classroom and social distancing as well as an overall dedensification of the campus. For more information about One Emerson Flex Learning and Emerson's response to Covid-19, please visit the following page: https://www.emerson.edu/covid-19.

Enrollment for Love and Eroticism is capped at 20 students.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Emerson College is committed to an active, intentional, and ongoing engagement with diversity—in people, in the curriculum, in the co-curriculum, and in the college's intellectual, social, cultural, and geographical communities. Emerson endorses a framework of inclusive excellence, which recognizes that institutional excellence comes from fully engaging with diversity in all aspects of institutional activities. Therefore, we strongly encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their teaching, research and service that they can contribute to our excellence in this area.

All interested applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, and evidence of teaching experience. Any questions can be directed to Dean Amy Ansell (Amy_Ansell@emerson.edu) or Director of Curriculum and Administration Amy Vashlishan Murray (A_Vashlishan_Murray@emerson.edu). A Ph.D. in a related field (granted by the January 19th start date) is preferred.
