Job Description

This position is a member of the Change Management Team (CMT) in the Information Technology Services Department at the Flagstaff campus of Northern Arizona University. The primary mission of CMT is to provide reliable enterprise application systems to our customers. To this end, the CMT team manages the technical aspects of application modifications, upgrades, and middle tier support for NAU's Oracle/PeopleSoft based enterprise application systems (Financials, HR/Payroll, and Campus Solutions) and other enterprise application systems as needed. Modifications to the production systems sometimes require after hours or weekend implementation and may utilize updates from Oracle or a third-party vendor. CMT also assists with database, hardware, network, and system software upgrades. CMT works very closely with other ITS teams and administrative units at the University. A strong candidate would be someone who has experience performing technical work efforts in conjunction with other team members and has worked directly with database administrators, development staff, and systems administrators. A strong candidate would also have proven experience demonstrating a meticulous attention to detail.

Under direct supervision this position:

Participates in the administration and maintenance of Oracle/PeopleSoft software, configuration settings, and scripting on application servers, web servers, and batch servers in an Oracle/Linux/Windows environment
Participates in the implementation of vendor delivered and custom modifications to NAU's enterprise systems
Coordinates assigned tasks with other team members, application developers, system administrators, database administrators, and third-party vendor support engineers in efforts involving the installation, upgrading, maintenance and performance tuning of enterprise systems
Facilitates production control for code migration across environments as well as with the management of job scheduling
Applies security access changes and troubleshoots access issues relating to security
Assists ITS staff and the campus community in troubleshooting technical issues relating to enterprise systems
Assists in the preparation for audits of change management and security practices in the enterprise systems
Creates and maintains written procedures, system specifications, support guidelines, processes, and other necessary documentation as related to development area
Participates with the team in planning and coordinating activities to meet project goals and objectives
Develops and maintains supportive working relationship with teams including: Application Development, Database Administration, Project Management, Systems Administration, Network Administration, Systems Analysts, Information Security, ITS Service Desk, and Business Analysts
Able to work at moderately complex levels for all phases of enterprise application product support activities and has an understanding of the application systems and programming activities associated with such
Exemplifies sensitivity to cultural diversity issues in order to communicate and interact effectively while representing ITS

Under general supervision this position:

Administers and maintains Oracle/PeopleSoft software, configuration settings, and scripting on application servers, web servers, and batch servers in an Oracle/Linux/Windows environment.
Participates in the implementation of vendor delivered and custom modifications to NAU's enterprise systems.
Coordinates assigned tasks with other team members, application developers, system administrators, database administrators, and vendor support engineers in efforts involving the installation, upgrading, maintenance and performance tuning of enterprise systems.
Performs modification migrations across environments, adhering to change management best practices.
Applies security access changes and troubleshoots access issues relating to security.
Works closely with ITS staff and the campus community in troubleshooting technical issues relating to enterprise systems.
Assists in the preparation for audits of change management and security practices in the enterprise systems.
Defines and documents application administration, security administration, and change management processes, procedures, guidelines, and objectives for audiences of varying technical levels. Responsible for periodic review and maintenance of documentation.
Participates with the team in planning and coordinating activities to meet project goals and objectives.
Develops and maintains supportive working relationship with teams including: Application Development, Database Administration, Project Management, Systems Administration, Network Administration, Systems Analysts, Information Security, ITS Service Desk, and Business Analysts.
Able to work at complex levels for all phases of enterprise application product support activities and has a thorough understanding of the application systems and programming activities associated with such.
Exemplifies sensitivity to cultural diversity issues in order to communicate and interact effectively while representing ITS.

Minimum Qualifications

Applications Programmer, Intermediate

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; AND,
2-4years of programming or enterprise application system experience; OR
A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent.

Applications Programmer, Senior

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; AND,
3-5 years of programming or enterprise application system experience; OR,
A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Applications Programmer, Intermediate

Experience working in higher education
2-3 years of experience supporting Enterprise systems
1-2 years PeopleSoft ERP application experience within HR, Financial Systems, and/or Campus Solutions
Familiarity with Phire Change Implementation application
Familiarity with Application Manager job scheduling application
Proficiency with SQL query and systems scripting

Applications Programmer, Senior

Experience working in higher education.
Substantial experience supporting Enterprise systems.
Substantial experience supporting PeopleSoft ERP application experience within HR, Financial Systems, and/or Campus Solutions.
Experience with Phire Change Implementation application.
Familiarity with Application Manager job scheduling application.
Proficiency with SQL query and systems scripting.
