The Institute for NanoBioTechnologyis seeking aResearch Technologistto perform laboratory tests, animal experiments, and equipment maintenance by following established protocols or with appropriate instruction. Establish protocols for new techniques/methods. Assist and coordinate financial and administrative activities for laboratory and with financial staff. Train new laboratory members and facilitates productive research progress.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the upkeep of laboratory, including ordering and inventory management of laboratory supplies and reagents as well as equipment maintenance.
  • Performs and assists with laboratory experiments, including experiments with animals (mouse/rat).
  • Trains new group members, including postdocs and graduate students, in basic laboratory skills
  • Addresses problems in routine laboratory processes.
  • Analyzes the experimental data and prepares figures and tables using GraphPad, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Illustrator, ImageJ, and others.
  • Coordinates with financial staff to reconcile and track lab purchases. Assists in preliminary review of accounts in preparation of quarterly review.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field.Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior research experience in tissue engineering and metabolism is preferred
  • Prior experience conducting microscopy, NMR, and image analysis.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical/laboratory environment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
