Program Manager

General Summary/Purpose:

The Johns Hopkins Precision Medicine Center of Excellence for Multiple Sclerosis (JH PMCOE-MS) seeks a Program Manager to support the program management functions of the Multiple Sclerosis Biomarkers program based in the Department of Neurology. The JH PMCOE-MS is dedicated to providing targeted diagnosis and treatments for patients with MS, where every patient is unique and providers believe that every course of treatment should be designed to work effectively for an individual’s distinctive needs, lifestyle and medical history.

The Center is working to advance MS care by:

    Identifying the anticipated progress of MS disease more exactly from the start using state–of-the-art optical coherence tomography (OCT), MRIs and other tests to conduct research to validate the recent discovery of MS prognostic biomarkers that track and predict the course of an individual's MS over time.
  • Predicting which treatments will be most successful and establishing new sets of care recommendations based on how aggressively MS is progressing and hope to expand those recommendations to cover factors related to an individual’s lifestyle and environment.
  • Advancing treatment approaches through basic science and clinical research.

The Program Manager for the Multiple Sclerosis Biomarkers program will report to the Co-Directors of PMCOE-MS and will be responsible for supporting all of the programmatic elements of the Center and will provide the center leadership with an overarching view of the status of the Center’s MS Biomarkers research and outreach activities in order to assist in the development of funding acquisition strategies, budget planning and the effective utilization of divisional resources.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

    Designs and executes a task management system to ensure goals and timelines are met Coordinates activities with PMCOE-MS program staff
  • Maintain contact with internal and external partners to ensure appropriate and timely submission of reports and invoices related to all projects in the Multiple Sclerosis Biomarkers program
  • Develops briefing materials for senior leadership on various topics.
  • Leads or supports communications/events/public programs, finance, development, and other functions.
  • Helps develop new content, ideas, programs, and other activities to support and expand the mission of the Center.
  • Serves as a connector across divisions and offices within Johns Hopkins.
  • Acts as Center liaison to internal groups across Johns Hopkins such as Development and Alumni Relations (DAR), Budget and Finance teams and others.
  • Works with Development and Alumni Relations to facilitate existing relationships and to identify, cultivate and manage new opportunities for the Center.
  • Identifies ways for groups to interact, resources to be accessed etc.
  • Drafts, edits and/or reviews communications, briefings, remarks, presentations, collateral (print and electronic), website, social media, and other.
  • Coordinates marketing, branding, and outreach across whole university.
  • Plans and executes programs for the Center including events, conferences, webcasts, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s Degree Five (5) years’ work experience in related fields such as healthcare or public health, politics, NGO, or other areas including strategy, leadership and/or management roles required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula***.
Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s in business, marketing, program management, or other related filed preferred. Advanced degree in business, health management or other related discipline preferred.
  • Experience in communications and program development very helpful.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel a plus.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Previous experience in management and organizational strategy. Interest in developing relationships and working with others. Capacity for navigating complex organizations.
  • Highly organized and attentive to details.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Passion for scientific and health-related research.
  • Familiarity with non-profit settings is a bonus.
  • Comfort with budgetary and financial planning.

***JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
