Under general supervision oversees a CLIA -certified high complexity lab that will be performing SARS -CoV-2 diagnostic RT- PCR testing. Directs the technical day-to-day laboratory operations which includes the general technical supervision of laboratory testing personnel. Ensures that the laboratory and the laboratory staff is in compliance with all laws and regulations that are required by CLIA, CAP, OSHA and any other applicable legislative organizations.

This is a Grant Funded position.

Essential Duties Summary

• Oversees the day-to-day operations of the lab and ensures the quality of the service.
• Supervises laboratory personnel in a variety of laboratory duties.
• Conduct employee competency assessment, procedure training and recording in personnel files.
• Performs the validations of clinical and instrument testing.
• Organizes and conducts the initial writing of SOP and following revision.
• Troubleshoots instruments, assay procedures, and reagents.
• Interacts with Technical Supervisor to ensure the lab meets CAP / CLIA standard and state, local government requirements.
• Prepares documentation for routine inspections.
• Evaluates employee performance.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range $63,840.00 - $79,801.00 Education

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or higher in Medical Technology with certification as MT or MLS from ASCP, AMT .

• Handling of patient specimens from accession to storage.
• Follow technical procedures for the Standard Operating Procedure Manual.
• DNA and RNA extraction, and PCR testing.
• Sterile technique.

• Assist in the administration of all Quality Control Programs.
• Assist in the inventory management and ordering.
• Sample data collecting or accession if necessary.
• Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.

Work Experience

At least 3 years’ experience of supervisory experience in a CLIA certified high complexity lab OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working/Environmental Conditions

Routine office environment.
Sitting or standing in one location much of the time.
Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects light weight may be required.
Use of video display terminal.
