Position Summary:

This position will provide research support, data collection and tobacco cessation coaching to participants in multiple in person and virtual research studies based out of the UW Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention (UW-CTRI) Madison office. Health Counselors work under the Research Site Manager in accord with the instructions of PIs to implement study protocols, provide and receive feedback as needed on implementation of the study. On-site research related work is required with proper PPE provided by UW-CTRI.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required; emphasis in social sciences, public health or related field preferred; Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

A minimum of 12 months' experience in health-related research and data collection and/or direct patient services is required.

Additional preferred qualifications include:
- Counseling experience
- Experience in human clinical trials, especially involving behavioral change and/or smoking
- Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
- Experience in a health care setting, health education and/or doing counseling or detailed patient interviewing strongly preferred
- Knowledge and experience providing of nicotine dependence and cessation counseling

Additional Information:

This is a fixed-term terminal position which is expected to last for one year from date of hire. Temporary extension for up to one additional year and/or conversion to a renewable appointment is possible, based upon funding availability, program needs and satisfactory performance.

Candidates must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; the ability to work independently within a defined organizational structure; experience and comfort with the use of technology in a work setting; and proficiency with keyboarding.

A valid driver's license that meets UW Risk Management standards is required, or the incumbent must provide his/her own transportation to sites.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial Caregiver Check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and then every four years.
