About California Nurses Association/National Nurses United Education:

California Nurses Association/National Nurses United is the largest labor union and professional association of registered nurses in U.S. History.  Our education programs support the advocacy, leadership and social justice mission of union nurses.   From Continuing Education workshops to University classes, our programs are designed to give our members and movement allies the information and analysis that they need to effectively fight for safe and democratic workplaces, healthy communities, an equitable health care system and a just world.

We seek skilled educators who use creative pedagogical methods that encourage students to turn knowledge into collective action.  Ideal candidates for this position are passionate about developing the knowledge and analytical acumen that it takes for union nurses to navigate some of the world’s most challenging health concerns: economic inequality, racial injustice, gender inequity, climate change and global insecurity.

This is not a traditional labor education position. In addition to supporting organizing and bargaining campaigns, educators’ primary responsibilities are to develop and teach a broad range of subject matter in three program areas:

Position: This is a permanent full-time position that is currently remote, but will be based in the San Francisco Bay Area after the pandemic. This position is best suited for a nimble social justice-oriented educator who works collaboratively and is also capable of working independently when developing class content that will be delivered to both small (10-40 students) and large (200+) audiences.

Teaching and travel obligations vary according to organizational need, calendar and program growth.

Salary and Benefits: Excellent salary depending on experience, and benefits including comprehensive family health and dental plan, and generous pension.

Basic Qualifications: An advanced degree in a relevant discipline or interdisciplinary field (PhD preferred); a commitment to social justice unionism, experience translating complex concepts for general audiences, a valid driver’s license and ability to (eventually) travel.

We encourage applicants from all disciplines, particularly: American/Cultural Studies, History, Global Studies,  Economics, Feminist Studies, Critical Race/Ethnic Studies, Feminist/Critical Gender Studies, Critical Geography/Political-Economy, Labor Studies.

To Apply: Fill out our one-page online application form and submit a resumé, cover letter, sample syllabus and/or an outline of a one-day educational workshop (including teaching objectives and intended audience) and a brief writing sample.
