Position Summary and Responsibilities
The bakery staff is responsible for the cooking, baking and presentation of bakery food items for locations throughout campus.
  • Follow production guidelines for departments, including but not limited to the Bakery, Catering and Commissary.
  • Maintain current knowledge about and apply appropriate methods of baking, cooking and food preparation.
  • Bake and otherwise prepare food according to recipes, brand standards, and health and safety regulations.
  • Evaluate food quality and preparedness by tasting.
  • Use correct portions when baking, preparing, and serving items.
  • Communicate any issues to management which could affect the service before each meal period.
  • Maintain production results of each meal.
  • Ensure food is stored at the appropriate temperature for the appropriate length of time and follows all food safety standards.
  • Ensure proper storage and labeling standard are maintained for all food items at their designated work stations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and sanitary work station, equipment, and utensils.
  • Safely operate machinery and equipment.
  • Report safety hazards discovered in the location to management immediately.
  • Separate and remove waste and place it in the appropriate receptacle.
  • Set up/break down work station.
  • Display all foods prepared in the bakery ensuring attractive presentation.
  • Serve bakery items to customers and answer questions about food product.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Work Environment: Most often back-of-house, some front-of-house duties during meal periods. Work is in the kitchen/bakery interacting with heated equipment, steam, loud noise, and other environmental conditions. Requires frequent lifting/transporting hot food items, working with chemicals (soaps and sanitizers), repetitive motion, standing for long periods, and other physical requirements.

Schedule, Gordon Commons:
Sunday through Thursday- 5:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Fridays and Saturdays OFF

This position will have a written and practical test.


Qualifications
Required:

  • Basic knowledge of measurements for volume and weight of ingredients and food product.
  • Ability to read, scale and follow recipes in English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, including understanding, speaking, reading and writing.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and frequently lift, push, pull, or carry up to 30 lbs, and to perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended time periods, up to 6 hours.
  • Ability to work with heated equipment, steam, and loud noises.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Minimum 6 months experience in the food service industry as a baker.
  • Willingness to work additional hours, including overtime, as available. (Overtime is assigned according to seniority guidelines.)


Desired:

  • Culinary training or degree.
  • “Serve Safe” certified.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in the food service industry as a baker.
