Position Summary:

This position is responsible for performing human resources activities in the area of recruitment and on-boarding, payroll and benefits, employee relations, and related functions for the Department of Physics at UW-Madison. The Department has 400+ paid personnel (Faculty, Academic Staff, University Staff, Post-degree Trainees, Student Assistants, and Student Hourly) and 50+ unpaid individuals.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

- Five years of payroll and human resource experience in a University setting strongly preferred.
- Prior experience using a web-based Human Resources Information System to create and manage appointments. Knowledge of PeopleSoft payroll system strongly preferred.
- Prior experience using web-based financial software.
- Prior experience applying policies and procedures as they relate to payroll, benefits, and recruitment, in a University setting preferred.
- Skills in basic mathematical computations.
- Ability to exercise judgment, discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to use customer service techniques to respond to inquiries thoroughly, accurately, and timely while maintaining professionalism, tact, confidentiality, and diplomacy.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with a diverse constituency.
- Attention to detail, effective time management, organizational and independent decision-making skills are essential.
