Compliance Officer

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Utah Valley University's Office of General Counsel is seeking a University Compliance Officer. This role is primarily responsibility for coordinating university-wide compliance planning, monitoring, and assessment. The University Compliance Officer plans, develops, and coordinates strategies for monitoring, assessing, and controlling risk exposure related to compliance. The University Compliance Officers also:
  • Provides guidance and policy education to university compliance partners to advance the Federal Sentencing Guideline elements of an effective compliance program at the university.
  • Provides training to members of the university community on applicable compliance processes and procedures. Identifies compliance ownership gaps, overlaps, and inefficiencies, and proposes appropriate assignments of compliance responsibilities.
  • Tracks compliance-related due dates and helps keep primary compliance owners accountable.
  • Keeps updated on current issues and trends in higher education compliance.
  • Coordinates Minors on Campus Policy programming; administers conflict of interest and ethics disclosure, review, and management processes; coordinates and tracks implementation of various notice and disclosure requirements.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience directly related to the Summary of Duties or any combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling three years.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience administering and/or working within an enterprise compliance program
  • Knowledge of applicable laws (higher education laws preferred), norms, and processes
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Utah Valley University
  • Knowledge of enterprise risk management and internal audit principles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel across the University and with professional partners outside of the University.
  • Creative, energetic, and ambitious person who is able to lead programs and manage projects
  • Strong organization skills with attention to detail
  • Strong commitment to quality, timeliness, and effectiveness. Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
  • Political astuteness and emotional intelligence

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in a corporate or public sector compliance program or auditing function.


Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a typical office setting. Sitting, standing, and bending required. May require handling of objects up to 10 lbs.

FLSA: Exempt

Pay Range: Commensurate with experience, $51,372- $68,582 (plus 14.2 percent retirement contribution and other benefits)
