Instructional Technology Specialist
Carroll University
Classification: Support Staff - Full Time - 12 Months - 2080 Hours
Reports to: Assistant Director of Academic Computing & Instructional Technologies
Description: The Instructional Technology Specialist is responsible for supporting the use of instructional technology across the campus. The essential functions of the Instructional Technology Specialist include training to faculty, staff and students on effective use of software, hardware, and devices used for teaching and learning. This position also provides support to faculty, staff and students in the use of media production hardware and software. This position requires a flexible work schedule that may include weekly schedule changes, working evenings and weekends, and in an on-call capacity.
Responsibilities:
- Provide training to faculty, staff and students on effective
use of software, hardware, and devices used for teaching and
learning.
- Provide technical support for lab/classroom hardware, software,
and A/V equipment.
- Provide support for the use of media production and
distribution equipment and software including video cameras, audio
recording equipment, video and audio editing software.
- Create and maintain thorough documentation for the use all
supported equipment.
- Assist with planning for the acquisition of new and replacement
equipment.
- Assist with Media Center functions including
training/supervising student employees, managing A/V equipment
checkout and answering questions as necessary.
- Assist with high quality audio-visual technical services for
campus events including internal and external clients.
- Provide evening and weekend support as necessary.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of
Academic Computing & Instructional Technologies.
Education and/or Experience: - Bachelor's degree required, with Major in Computer Science,
Information Technology, Mass Communications, or related technical
field preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered in
lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of one year of experience in the support of
audio-visual equipment preferably in a conference and/or live
production/performance setting or in an academic classroom setting
preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience in video and audio production
including videography and video editing preferred.
Technology Skills: - Proficiency with learning management systems and instructional
software.
- Experience with both Mac and Windows operating
systems.
- Experience with the operation of audio-visual control
equipment, and video editing systems.
Human Relations Skills: - Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess strong customer service skills.
- Ability to supervise several student employees.
- Ability to work well under pressure with tight
deadlines.
- Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities in a
fast-paced environment.
- Ability to coordinate multiple assignments/projects
simultaneously.
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with a
diverse group of customers and colleagues.
- Candidates must be willing and able to support and advance the
University mission.
Special Requirements: - Valid drivers' license and ability to be insured under the
University's insurance plan preferred.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
