ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF MASS COMMUNICATION (Area Open)

Job Description and Responsibilities:

The Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University invites applications for a nine-month tenure-eligible position in Mass Communication at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in fall 2021.

We seek a broadly prepared scholar to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Manship School core curriculum and/or area of specialization. The Manship School undergraduate core curriculum includes classes in media writing, visual communication, emerging media, law, ethics and diversity, equity and inclusion. Our graduate core curriculum includes courses in the philosophy and principles of mass communication, public opinion and public affairs, mass communication theory and research methods. The Manship School offers degrees with concentrations in digital advertising, journalism, political communication and public relations. Areas of particular interest for the School, cutting across these concentrations, include a focus on the intersection of media and public affairs, attention to emerging and digital media and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Applicants should demonstrate evidence of or potential for high-quality research, teaching excellence and the pursuit of extramural research funding. This faculty member will supervise master’s theses and non-thesis option projects, as well as doctoral dissertations and undergraduate honors theses. They will also develop a portfolio of service activities, including support for the Manship School’s efforts to promote more diverse and inclusive media professions.

  • Teach two graduate and/or undergraduate courses in the Manship School core curriculum and/or area of specialization. 50%
  • Conduct research in his/her field of expertise. 25%
  • Service to the Manship School, university and community. 25%

Required Qualifications-Assistant Professor applicants:

Ph.D. in Mass Communication or related discipline (A.B.D. candidates also may be considered).

 

 

PROFFESSIONAL-IN-RESIDENCE OF MASS COMMUNICATION (Area Open)

The Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University invites applications for a nine-month non-tenure track position in Mass Communication as a Professional-in-Residence to begin in fall 2021.

We seek a distinguished media practitioner to teach courses in the Manship School undergraduate core curriculum and/or courses in area of specialization. The Manship School undergraduate core curriculum includes classes in media writing, visual communication, emerging media, law, ethics and diversity, equity and inclusion. The Manship School offers degrees with concentrations in digital advertising, journalism, political communication and public relations. Areas of particular interest for the School, cutting across these concentrations, include a focus on the intersection of media and public affairs, attention to emerging and digital media and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

A candidate hired as a professional-in-residence, would also supervise undergraduate research and creative work. They will also develop a portfolio of service activities, including support for the Manship School’s efforts to promote more diverse and inclusive media professions.

  • Teach four undergraduate core curriculum and/or courses in area of specialization courses per semester. 100%

Required Qualifications-Professional-in-Residence applicants:

Master’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication or related discipline and eight years of related experience.
